Former Tottenham captain and defender Ledley King is of the opinion that the club is capable of winning the title this season. The club has invested heavily in the transfer window following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for £ 86 million.
They have reinvested all this money along with some more of their own to take their net spending in excess of £ 100 million. This means that Tottenham no longer have only a great starting line-up but also an incredible substitute line-up as well.
This squad strength will make them capable of competing with the best clubs in England like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City. These three clubs are expected to be fighting for the title this season, but King sees no reason for Tottenham to be along with them. King was regarded as one of the finest defenders during his time at Tottenham, but his last few years at the club were curtailed because of injuries. He is now at an ambassadorial role at the club.
Tottenham are looking to seal their place in the knockout stages of the Europa league, as they have been almost unstoppable in the group matches so far. Tottenham will be taking on archrivals West Ham at White Hart Lane during the weekend.
“It (the title) is something I have thought about. There is still a long way to go, but if the team can keep performing as they are until Christmas, they can re-evaluate the situation and take it from there. They look like one of the strongest teams and, along with Arsenal, they have been one of the most consistent. The race looks open, more than it has done in previous years. At this stage, you wouldn’t know who to put your money on,” said the former Tottenham captain.
