TOTTENHAM NEED TO STEP UP THIS SEASON

Tottenham have been one of the consistent teams in the Premier League since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino five seasons ago. However, the team is in danger of slipping into mediocrity if the opening three weeks is anything to go by.

Pochettino has done well to shift Tottenham from the Harry Redknapp and Villas-Boas days which saw the likes of Gareth Bale, Ledley King and Jermaine Defoe play huge parts to a core of young players.

However, he would need to find a solution to the lackluster performance of the team so far. The opening victory against Aston Villa was a frustrating encounter for Spurs until the introduction of Christian Eriksen in the second half.

The Dane international future is part of the problem for Spurs as the creative ace is thought to be eyeing a move away from the club. it is difficult to see how Tottenham can replace the former Ajax midfielder as he brings creativity and ideas to a workman midfield.

Lucas Moura is another conundrum for Pochettino, the Brazilian ace is perhaps the most undeserving bench player in the league. He has always performed for the club when called upon but has struggled to gain an extended role in the first team.

It was Moura that scored the goal that helped Tottenham steal a draw at the Etihad against Manchester City and the Brazillian is simply too good for the bench.

Harry Kane has also looked out of place in the first three games and Pochettino will need his best player to be on his best to have any chance of winning silverware this season.

Kane is the bookies favourite to win the top scorer award and with his pedigree, he can achieve that despite his slow start this season.

The next game way to Arsenal at the Emirates will test the resolve of Pochettino’s men and the result could have a huge impact on their season.
