Former Tottenham defender Ledley King has praised the work done by Mauricio Pochettino since his arrival in the summer.
The South American did not have a fast start to his Spurs managerial career. Results were difficult to come by in the first few months of the campaign. Since then, however, Spurs have been on a roll and they are staying in touch with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United for a top four place. In addition, they have also qualified for the final of the Capital One Cup, which was the last trophy lifted by the club in 2008.
Ledley King was the captain of the team on the night when they beat Chelsea, who will once again be their opponents this Sunday. Recalling the great night, King said that Pochettino has done an excellent work with the squad that appeared to be bloated when he arrived at the club. A number of players, including Aaron Lennon, have left the club in the last six months. The small squad has been able to work wonders by playing a high tempo game. Pochettino has also been able to get the best out of the club’s own players like Harry Kane, who is the leading Englishman in the league goalscorer charts.
“I don’t think we had the foundations in place to build on what we achieved at Wembley back then. The manager left and a lot of players went as well, so it was back to square one – though we did get to the final a year later under Harry Redknapp. This time there is a project in place. Mauricio Pochettino has a keen interest in the development of young players like Harry Kane and Ryan Mason. The fans can see he is there for the long term hopefully so whatever happens tomorrow there is stability,” said King.
