Tottenham ambassador of football Ledley King says that he is confident that the club can return back to the Champions League under the guidance of manager Mauricio Pochettino. The former Southampton boss was appointed as the new manager of the club. He has brought in new ideas as they try to recover from an up-and-down campaign. Last season, Andre Villas-Boas was sacked midway through the campaign and Tim Sherwood was appointed as his replacement. Even though there were spells of good form, it was largely accompanied by poor results against top teams.
This meant that Tottenham finished outside the top four once again. They have been able to enjoy Champions League football only once in their history. Keen to recover the form, they brought in Pochettino, who showed a lot of promise with a limited budget that Southampton. The new manager has already made substantial changes to the team. Even though arrivals have been fairly limited, some key players have been sold in order to reduce the bloated squad. King, who is regarded as a club legend, says that he has seen enough promise from Pochettino to suggest that Tottenham will finish in the top four this season.
“There are seven teams who can finish in the top four. There are two or three, maybe four, who believe they can win the league. We are not one of them at the moment. We need a bit of time. We have a new manager and a new style of play. It’s going to be tough to break into the top four, but if we have a good season we are capable of doing that. It’s not easy but the players are capable of doing that. They just have to believe it. We have a very good manager, so you never know,” said King.
