Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has concerns over Premier League leaders Liverpool, in their pursuit of Timo Werner. The former England defender feels his old side may have missed out on the chance to sign RB Leipzig’s star man.
The striker has been sensational for the Bundesliga title hopefuls this season and, despite consistent links with Jürgen Klopp’s side, Carragher fears the Reds may have missed their chance to secure Werner’s signature.
Werner, 24, has scored 21 Bundesliga goals this season. He also has seven assists for Leipzig this season. His 28 goals contributions can only be bettered by three players in Europe’s top five leagues this campaign. His red hot from has understandably attracted interest from Liverpool among other top clubs.
However, due to the financial implications caused by the suspension of play in response to the Covid19 pandemic, Carragher has suggested the club’s transfer approach may be altered.
During an Instagram live session, the former defender stated that the deal to sign Werner was almost done before the Coronavirus outbreak. But he feels his old side can still find a way to make the deal happen.
There are questions among fans about the potential arrival of the German international. There are concerns about where the player will actually play in the attacking line. Who will make way for him, Salah, Mane or Firmino?
Former Tottenham Hotspur captain, Ledley King has also questioned the motive behind the move for Werner. He stated that the trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino are one of the best in the continent of not the best.
But Klopp has proven himself overtime to be an exceptional man manager who is more than capable of keeping the squad content with the playing time he affords his stars. Should Liverpool continue their success, there will be no shortage of games for all of the Reds’ attacking assets.
